If two products both contain Tribulus terrestris, are they essentially the same? Not necessarily. A botanical name identifies a plant species; it does not by itself define the composition, extract specification or manufacturing documentation of a finished product.
1. Start with the exact botanical material
Tribestan® is based on dry extract from the aerial parts of Tribulus terrestris L.. When evaluating another Tribulus product, check whether its label clearly identifies the plant species and plant part.
2. Compare the declared extract amount
The original Tribestan® product contains 250 mg of dry extract per film-coated tablet. A published clinical trial using Sopharma’s Tribestan describes a 35–45:1 extract standardized to not less than 112.5 mg of furostanol saponins per tablet. Those numbers describe the product used in that publication; they should not be assumed to apply to unrelated Tribulus products.
3. Manufacturer and documentation matter
Sopharma lists Tribestan among its strategic consumer-health brands. Its Kazanlak manufacturing site supplies active ingredients for flagship products including Tribestan, and Sopharma’s 2024 management reporting identifies an approved Tribulus terrestris dry-extract ASMF for Tribestan 250 mg film-coated tablets.
4. Compare finished products, not marketing words
Terms such as “Tribulus,” “Bulgarian Tribulus” or a high milligram number are not enough on their own to establish that two products are equivalent. Compare the manufacturer, plant part, extract specification, tablet or serving amount, packaging and product documentation.
